Searching for a therapist is not always easy and often
times you end up having more questions than before you started! How does therapy actually work? How often do we have to meet? How much is this going to cost me? Those are common questions that can be answered in a short 30 minute complimentary session. This session allows you to meet me, ask any questions you may have about this process and get comfortable in the office setting. Individual Therapy: One on one sessions to discuss the recent events or issues that have brought you into therapy. My style is very collaborative and I want to work with you to develop a plan vs me prescribing a set of ideas. Many people have the answers inside themselves and just need someone to listen to them unpack everything that has been going on, sort it out and then make sense out of it all. Your sessions will be tailored to your specific needs. Parenting and Family Therapy: Becoming a parent can be one of the most exciting times in our lives and also brings about a lot of change. Whether you are struggling to acclimate to becoming a new parent or you are having difficulty parenting your teen I can help you figure out what is needed to make family life less conflictual. Parenting is one of the most daunting roles we take on and can often become overwhelming when what we are doing doesn’t seem to be effective any longer. Together we can develop a plan that is workable in your home and brings back the peace that has been missing. Couples Therapy: The question that is commonly asked is "how did it get this bad?". Communication break downs are so common in a relationship and we often do not realize it is happening. Many couples are worried that counseling will be one sided when in fact in most situations both parties have a piece in the conflict. My job is to not take sides but offer tools that will help you communicate more effectively and actually be able to listen to what the other person has to say. I was once told "listening is not waiting for my turn to speak". When we are developing our plan of attack while our partner is speaking the conversation usually ends in frustration and feeling even more disconnected. The goal of therapy is to heal the pain and rebuild on the foundation that brought you together in the beginning. Substance Use Therapy: I have been working with substance abusers for many years and I have yet to have hear someone say, "my plan was to become addicted". It was never part of our plan yet it has become of our life. Substances can take over and the life we had planned can be a dream of the past. In our therapy we will work to find the reasons to stop using that make sense to you. We will develop a plan that is individualized based on your goals and work together to find skills to help you deal with the everyday situations that have lead to your using. Licensure Supervision: After working nearly 26 years in the human service field I feel part of my job is to give back to the up and coming social workers. I have been providing clinical supervision throughout my career and can help you obtain the hours needed to fulfill your Licensed Clinical Social Work (LCSW) license as well as you Certified Addiction Counselor (CAC) certification. Learning together in a supportive environment can make those ups and downs of our career feel more balanced and purposeful. Individual and group consultation offered. |
